It's been so many years since I played AO, yet I think of it often because of the fun I had there. I wish it were the same as it used to be..

I think you hit the nail on the head with that one. After AO i tried Guildwars but it was so basic! you get like 5 classes to choose from and no weapons are customisable! So by the end, everyone looks the exact same with lvl 20 armour and a green sword/staff/bow/wand. So then i tried twelve sky and it was exactly the same only you can upgrade your weapon but it was all by chance, and you can easily lose your weapon. With AO, you know exactly what you need to make a nano or a weapon and you go and find it! once you have those pieces you just make the damn thing. Non of this 70% chance of fail/break weapon, start again business.


I think thats why now I play monster hunter freedom 2 on my PSP because you have to find the pieces to upgrade your weapons and armours like you do in AO.

I still miss that old perenium sniper though ^^ :hug:

I think I've tried about a dozen other mmo's, and yea, nothing out there is quite like AO. Even without expansions, I can't think of another mmo that as a free player you can get from level 1 - 200, with a lot of content to play with, alot of are areas to roam, etc. The only other mmo I've actually kinda liked and would maybe play again when I'm frustrated with AO or it's down is Dofus. There's really nothing fancy about Dofus, it's even kinda cute-sy, but I like that the fighting style is turn-based. You don't really see that in any mmo's.

That reminds me, I should start posting more AO screenshots on my main dA account :P I have some on there, but it's never enough!

As far as console and hand-helds go, I think that's why I loved Morrowind so much (on xbox). It's still my favourite console rpg. You can really do so freakin' much with your character. I like that. the ability to customize as much as you want. It's nice. more games really should do that.

Cool! I did read about lost eden but seriously got confused with the new additions! What i really liked about that game which i havent seen with any other game, is that there is so much to do! Making implants and weapons and nano thingys was such a great idea! I still kinda remember camping the trash king for hours just to get some mission item. Man that was a pain in my butt!

that's the thing i like about ao. i've tried many mmorpg's, and none have really matched with the amount of things you can do. pretty much every mmo out there, if you're a certain class or breed, you can only do this or that, use only this kind of weapon or wear this kind of armor. that's not the case with ao. you can be a healer using a pistol, or a rifle, or a bow, or piercing weapons, or a 2 handed sword, or 2 1 handed blunt weapons, etc etc. the possibilities really seem endless, and that's not the case with mmorpgs out there.

Oh i used to play that game so long ago! back when the alien invasion package was only just coming out and shadowlands was the only expansion pack! oh good times!
